Five of the England team were born overseas - Strauss, Trott, Pietersen, Morgan and Prior.
The last time England fielded a Test XI all of whom were born in England was in the Galle Test in December 2003. The team was: Trescothick, Vaughan, Butcher, Thorpe, Collingwood, Flintoff, Read, Batty, Giles, Johnson, Hoggard.
The England team who took the field against New Zealand at Christchurch and Auckland in January 1992 contained 7 players born outside England: Hick, Smith, Lamb, Reeve, Lewis, Pringle and DeFreitas.
In their Test history, Pakistan has taken only 53.4% of their Test wickets caught, which is the lowest of any country. Either a reflection of their greater ability to bowl at the stumps or to drop catches!

Danish Kaneria has so far bowled 21 overs in the England innings without a single maiden. The Pakistani record for the most 6-ball overs in an innings without a maiden was set by Shahid Afridi who bowled 24.4 overs against India at Faisalabad in January 2006.

Horan's 6-40 for Australia v England at Sydney in 1885 are the best bowling figures by an Irish-born player.
Morgan and Collingwood have already added 213 runs together, which is an England record for the fifth wicket against Pakistan. There are two imminent targets for them to aim for which are currently:
- 254: England's highest fifth wicket partnership against all teams (Keith Fletcher and Tony Greig against India at Bombay in 1973)
- 267: England's highest partnership for any wicket against Pakistan (Michael Vaughan & Graham Thorpe for the third wicket at Old Trafford in 2001)
Pakistan's team in this Test have a total of 15 Test centuries between them, of which Kamran Akmal ha scored the most with 6. England now boast 61 Test centuries, with Strauss (18) and Pietersen (16) out-doing Pakistan by themselves.
At Colombo, Sri Lanka scored 642/4 declared batting first and yet conceded a first-innings lead. This is the third time a team batting second has overtaken a total of at least 600.
Suraj Randiv conceded the most runs in an innings on Test debut, surpassing Jason Krejza's 215 against India at Nagpur in 2008.
