36) 2003 - Steve Waugh hits the last ball of the day for four with a cover drive off Richard Dawson to reach his century at Sydney 35) 1948 - Denis Compton is hit on the head by Ray Lindwall at Old Trafford, but returns to score 145 not out - England's next highest individual score is 37 34) 1928 - Herbert Sutcliffe makes 135 as England chase 332 to win at Sydney - their highest successful fourth innings run chase in Test cricket 33) 2001 - Mark Butcher's career-best unbeaten 173* leads England to their fourth innings target of 315 at Headingley 32) 1955 - At Melbourne Australia run into a typhoon as Frank Tyson blows them away with 7/27 31) 1902 - Victor Trumper scores a century before lunch on Day 1 of the Old Trafford Test. It proves just enough as Australia win by three runs when poor Fred Tate is dismissed. His son does somewhat better later on though! 30) 1974/75 - Ashes to Ashes, dust to dust, if Lillee doesn't get you, Thommo must. Lillee and Thomson take 57 wickets in five Tests as Australia win the series 4-1 29) 1961 - Changing his line of attack to around the wicket, Richie Benaud takes 6/70 at Old Trafford to win the match as England lose their last nine wickets for just 51 runs 28) 1934 - Bill Ponsford and Don Bradman put on a world record 451 for the second wicket at The Oval as Australia win the match by 562 runs 27) 1894 - Australia score 586 batting first at Sydney and England are forced to follow-on. However, they score 437 and end up triumphant by 10 runs 26) 1997 - Steve Waugh seems to be batting on a different pitch to everyone else as his twin centuries at Old Trafford help Australia to a 268-run victory 25) 1938 - Stan McCabe plays his memorable innings of 232 at Trent Bridge which prompts Bradman to say "I wish I could bat like that" 24) 1981 - After Botham's blitz, Bob Willis takes 8/43 to apply the finishing touches to the Australian defeat at Headingley to upset odds of 500/1 23) 1934 - Hedley Verity takes 15 wickets in the match - 14 of them in a single day - as the Australians are beaten at Lord's for the last time for 75 years 22) 1982 - England win by three runs at Melbourne as a Jeff Thomson edge is parried by Chris Tavare, but caught by Geoff Miller 21) 1933 - Bert Oldfield is hit on the head by Harold Larwood bowling Bodyline at Adelaide which fractures his skull and nearly causes a diplomatic incident 20) 1933 - At Brisbane, Eddie Paynter rises from his sick-bed to score 83 in four hours.
