18) 1968 - After a deluge, the crowd help to mop up the outfield and England manage to win at The Oval with five minutes to spare 17) 1948 - Australia successfully chase a record-at-the-time 404 in 344 minutes to win by seven wickets at Headingley, thanks to centuries from Arthur Morris and Don Bradman 16) 1993 - Shane Warne's delivers his 'ball of the century' at Old Trafford as his first delivery in Ashes cricket bamboozles Mike Gatting 15) 1902 - Gilbert Jessop scores 104 at The Oval in just 75 minutes as England win by one wicket, scoring 263-9 14) 1964 - At Headingley, England take the new ball in an attempt to wrap up the Aussie innings but Peter Burge's 160 rescues Australia from 178-7 and they win the Test and the series 13) 1882 - Fred 'the Demon' Spofforth's takes 14 England wickets at The Oval which prompts the mock obituary in the Times which brings the Ashes into being 12) 1937 - Don Bradman counters a vicious Melbourne sticky wicket by reversing his batting order and scoring 270 at number seven to lead the Aussies to a 365-run victory 11) 1989 - Mark Taylor and Geoff Marsh open the batting and bat for the entire first day of the Trent Bridge Test ending on 301-0 10) 1930 - Don Bradman plays what he considers his best innings - 254 at Lord's as Australia make 729 and win by seven wickets 9) 2005 - England sneak home by two runs at Edgbaston when Mike Kasprowicz is caught behind by Geraint Jones from the bowling of Steve Harmison 8) 1964 - Fred Trueman becomes the first man to take 300 Test wickets when he has Neil Hawke caught by Colin Cowdrey at The Oval 7) 1953 - Denis Compton plays one of his famous sweep shots at The Oval and England win the Ashes for the first time in 19 years 6) 1938 - Len Hutton breaks the Test record for the highest individual score with 364 at The Oval, England pile up 903-7 declared and win by a record innings and 579 runs 5) 1948 - Needing just four runs to finish his Test career with a batting average of 100, Don Bradman is bowled second ball by Eric Hollies at The Oval 4) 1981 - With England struggling to avoid an innings defeat, Ian Botham turns the Headingley Test on its head with an unbeaten 149 3) 1972 - Bob Massie makes his Test debut at Lord's and takes 16 England wickets to lead Australia to an eight-wicket victory 2) 1930 - Don Bradman smashes the Test record for the highest individual score and ends on 309 not out at the end of the first day at Headingley.
