Two goals in three first-half minutes secured Crewe a 2-0 League Two victory over Accrington at the Crown Ground.
Unlike Stanley, the Railwaymen were clinical in front of goal and took the lead against the run of play in the 11th minute. Top scorer Shaun Miller got the ball on the edge of the area, his shot took a deflection and looped up to Ajay Leitch-Smith at the far post who volleyed home. But it was soon two-nil when Byron Moore stayed onside to get on the end of Ashley Westwood's throughball and fired low into Sean Murdoch's net with just 14 minutes on the clock. Stanley struggled to make their chances count, with the unmarked Kevin Long having a strike cleared off the line before captain Andy Procter somehow fired wide. Peter Murphy thought he had finally made a chance count for the Reds on the stroke of half-time when Procter's shot was deflected to the midfielder, he rifled the ball goalwards but could only watch as it hit the crossbar and rebounded to safety.
