Accrington triumph against play-off rivals

Jimmy Ryan fired home his fourth goal of the season to boost Accrington's promotion charge against fellow play-off chasers Rotherham, with the home side running out 2-1 winners. The midfielder rifled the ball into the net 10 minutes from time after left-back Dean Winnard had set him up in the area. It was a lively game with Stanley running the Millers ragged in the first half. They took the lead in the 18th minute when Ryan set up Michael Symes to stroke home for his 16th goal of the season. The Reds then squandered a host of chances with two goalline clearances and Millers keeper Andy Warrington being on top of his game. Millers boss Ronnie Moore must have given his side a rocket at the break and Rotherham came out strongly. They equalised on 56 minutes when Middlesbrough loanee midfielder Josh Walker scored a superb equaliser, running half the length of the pitch and firing into the top of the net from 25 yards. Ian Sharps headed wide and Kevin Ellison was denied by Stanley keeper Dean Bouzanis before Ryan grabbed an important winner in the promotion race.
