Hurst brace and Futcher effort sends Shakers second

Bury climbed back into second in League Two after blowing away Port Vale 3-0 at Gigg Lane. The home side took an early lead with centre-half Ben Futcher scoring a second-minute opener before Glynn Hurst scored a brace on 11th minutes and the stroke of half-time. The Shakers made a whirlwind start with Hurst flicking on Stephen Dawson's right-wing cross and Futcher took one touch before coolly slotting the ball past Lee Anyon from 16 yards Winger Elliott Bennett then combined with Hurst to release Bishop down the right channel and his vicious strike forced Anyon to tip the ball over. But the trio soon combined again to carve open the Vale defence, Bennett picking out Bishop, who chested down for Hurst to charge into the box and beat Anyon from 12 yards. Vale regrouped and Danny Glover twice tried his luck from the edge of the box, first testing home keeper Wayne Brown before dragging a similar effort harmlessly wide. Bury remained in charge, though, with Bishop heading narrowly over before Hurst stabbed the ball home in first-half stoppage time following Mike Jones' right-wing corner. Vale's top scorer Marc Richards went close after the restart but only a goalline block from Gareth Owen kept out a Bennett strike.
