Carlisle leapfrogged Yeovil in the League One table with a 1-0 victory at Brunton Park.

Loan star gives home side the spoils

Carlisle leapfrogged Yeovil a side with an identical playing record before this Brunton Park meeting thanks to a second-half goal from on-loan Manchester City midfielder Adam Clayton. It was a fine individual effort which lit up an otherwise dull contest in which Carlisle generally had the upper hand. Carlisle had the lion's share of possession in the first half without being able to find a way through a tightly-knit Yeovil defence. The best effort came from veteran midfielder Graham Kavanagh who lashed a volley just wide of the right-hand post. Yeovil only threatened briefly, although when Sam Williams threaded a pass through to Dean Bowditch, the striker's shot from the left-side of the penalty area stung keeper Adam Collin's palms. Again Kavanagh looked the man most likely to break the deadlock with a scorching effort in the 48th minute which was deflected narrowly over the bar. However Clayton scored for Carlisle in the 66th minute with a dipping half-volley from 20 yards after keeper Alex McCarthy had punched out Marc Bridge-Wilkinson's right-wing corner. The visitors failed to make much impression in attack, although after Carlisle lost skipper Danny Livesey to injury late on, Shaun MacDonald could have smashed the share of the spoils for Yeovil when he fired a low shot across the face of the goal and just a foot wide of the far post.
