DJ calls tune for Seasiders

Blackpool recovered from the early sending-off of Paul Rachubka to beat Crystal Palace 1-0.

Campbell nets winner for ten-man Blackpool

Blackpool recovered from the early sending-off of goalkeeper Paul Rachubka to beat Crystal Palace 1-0 at Selhurst Park. Rachubka was dismissed after just three minutes for bringing down Shefki Kuqi on the edge of the box but Palace could not capitalise on their numerical advantage. Blackpool battled admirably and grabbed a winner just before half-time when DJ Campbell slotted home a penalty. The loss of Rachubka meant that Paul Marshall's debut was cut short as he was hauled off with keeper Matthew Gilks coming on. And Gilks was called into action almost immediately when he had to tip over a powerful header from Kuqi. Palace pressed forward in search of the opener and John Oster found space inside the box but fired wide before Jose Fonte headed wide from Shaun Derry's corner.

Tucked away

Four minutes before half-time the home side were made to pay when Oster fouled Roy O'Donovan and Campbell tucked away the penalty. Crystal Palace began the second half brightly with Lee Hills and James Scowcroft both heading straight at Gilks before Fonte fired wide from the edge of the box. The visitors were forcing Palace into shots from distance with Oster and Clint Hill off target. As the game wore on Palace threw more players forward in a desperate attempt to get something out of the game but the home side rarely threatened. In injury-time Oster's dangerous corner was cleared by Alex Baptiste with a host of Palace players lurking as Blackpool hung on to record only their second win in the last 10 games.
