Gills grab crucial point

Ten-man Gillingham earned a valuable point in their bid to beat the drop at home to MK Dons.

League one strugglers claim share of Priestfield spoils

Ten-man Gillingham earned a valuable point in their bid to beat the drop thanks to Andy Barcham's second-half equaliser in a 2-2 draw at home to MK Dons. The visitors took the lead after 18 minutes as Luke Chadwick's header sailed into the Gillingham area and, after striking the post, fell kindly for David McCracken to tap home. The hosts were level two minutes later as Danny Jackman played a free-kick short to Adam Miller and the midfielder sent a low skimming drive from 20 yards beyond the helpless Willy Gueret. But Gillingham's day took a turn for the worse in the 42nd minute as striker Dennis Oli, previously booked for diving, was shown a second yellow card after a late challenge on Dons skipper Dean Lewington. Things went from bad to worse for the home side in first-half injury time as Stuart Lewis failed to deal with Lewis Gobern's cross and Jermaine Easter slotted home from 10 yards. Easter hit the crossbar early in the second half but the hosts rallied and were level after 65 minutes as former Tottenham trainee Barcham latched on to a long ball, beat Gary Richards for pace and coolly slotted home.
