      Mariners not safe yet

Accrington secured their survival after a 1-0 win at Grimsby, who are still not safe from the drop.

Symes' goal proves the difference at Blundell Park

Grimsby missed out on the chance to put further space between them and the relegation places as they went down 1-0 to an Accrington side who secured their Football League status for another season. A 71st-minute header from six yards from Shrewsbury loan striker Michael Symes clinched the points for John Coleman's side and defeats for both Bournemouth and Chester ensured Stanley are mathematically safe. The match was a tale of two keepers, Stanley's Kenny Arthur the busier in the second half as he superbly kept out a Barry Conlon effort from close range and a Nick Hegarty curler from distance. Accrington had the better of the first half with Grimsby keeper Wayne Henderson making a smart double save from John Miles and Peter Cavanagh inside the first five minutes, and he also denied Symes with his feet later in the half. The home side had their chances too with Conlon testing Arthur early on, but Symes' solitary goal won the day and ended Grimsby's three-match unbeaten run.
