Bastos and Pjanic on target for Lyon; Enyeama nets consolation

Michael Bastos hit a brace as Lyon beat Hapoel Tel Aviv 3-1 to move three points clear in UEFA Champions League Group B. The Lyon ace scored a seventh minute penalty before netting with an unstoppable 36th minute strike, while Vincent Enyeama hit a 79th minute penalty for Hapoel to set up a nervy finish. But substitute Miralem Pjanic netted an injury time third to ensure Hapoel's first-ever home Champions League group game ended in defeat. After chances at either end, the visitors' penalty came when Jimmy Briand was brought down by Walid Badier in the box. English referee Howard Webb booked the Hapoel player and rightly pointed to the spot, with Bastos sending keeper Enyeama the wrong way. The home keeper then needed to produce a fine finger-tip save to deny Bafetimbi Gomis before Ben Sahar had the best first-half chance for Hapoel, but Hugo Lloris managed to parry his powerful long-range effort and Lyon cleared. Bastos then scuffed his shot wide near the half-hour mark while Sahar's deflected effort was gathered by Lloris at the other end. The second goal came after Lloris mistimed a punch from a corner but the visitors scrambled the ball away, broke forward and Gomis won a corner on the right.

Unstoppable

Dedi Ben-Dayan cleared Yoann Gourcuff's kick at the near post but the ball fell to Bastos who unleashed an unstoppable 25-yard swerving effort into the top corner which left Enyeama no chance. Hapoel started the second period with more urgency and Eran Zahavi shot wide from Etey Shechter's cross from the left. Shechter had the ball in the net on 54 minutes but used his hand to round the on-rushing Lloris and Webb disallowed his effort before booking the Hapoel player. Home boss Eli Gutman made a double substitution on 59 minutes to try and get his side back in the game, bringing on Shay Abutbul and Yossi Shivhon for Zahavi and Romain Rocchi. Shivhon almost got a shot off soon afterwards but was crowded out in the box, while Lyon coach Claude Puel replaced Gomis with Jeremy Pied, who was then booked for pulling back Douglas da Silva. Abutbul found Douglas with the subsequent free-kick but the Brazilian headed straight at Lloris who gathered. The home side got back into the game when Douglas was pulled back by Dejan Lovren in the box from a corner and Enyeama slotted home the penalty kick. But Pjanic netted an injury-time third to make it two wins out of two for Lyon, while Hapoel are rock bottom of Group B with no points so far.
