Pirates prevail at Orient

Bristol Rovers claimed their second away win of the season as they came from behind to beat Leyton Orient 2-1.

Rovers stage impressive fightback

Bristol Rovers grafted their way to their second away win of the season by coming from behind to beat Leyton Orient 2-1. During a drab first half, Rovers posed the greater threat with midfielders Chris Lines and Jeff Hughes both attempting long-range efforts, while Orient defender and captain Stephen Purches had to make a crucial interception from a cross by Lines when he bolted down the right. Orient left-back Charlie Daniels turned up on the right wing and fired his shot into the side netting, before Rickie Lambert fired a 36th-minute free-kick over the crossbar after Rovers striker Jo Kuffour was fouled. Rovers keeper Steve Phillips was forced to make his first save soon after the break when he blocked a shot from midfielder JJ Melligan, but was beaten when striker Adam Boyd headed Orient in front from Jason Demetriou's corner after 57 minutes. Rovers levelled when Daniels lost possession and Hughes found the net 15 minutes from time and went ahead five minutes later when Alton Thelwell gave the ball away and substitute Darryl Duffy raced clear to beat keeper Glenn Morris. The nearest Orient came to salvaging a point was when Boyd volleyed narrowly over.
