Orient edge toward safety

Leyton Orient moved closer to ensuring their League One survival with a home defeat of Colchester.

Colchester slump to defeat

Leyton Orient edged closer towards League One safety as they came from behind to defeat Colchester 2-1 and make it six wins in their last eight games. An evenly-contested first half looked to be ending goalless until two goals in stoppage time. Colchester edged ahead when Simon Hackney's free-kick was flicked on to Clive Platt who headed home, but Orient levelled when Charlie Daniels curled a left-footed free-kick around the wall from 25 yards. Earlier, Orient goalkeeper Jamie Jones had made a spectacular save to tip Lewis Gobern's effort over the top. Orient striker Scott McGleish wasted two early second-half chances and defender Stephen Purches forced a fine save from United goalkeeper Dean Gerken with a header before Colchester full-back Marc Tierney rattled the home crossbar from 40 yards. McGleish then hit the crossbar at the other end before Daniels escaped on the left and lobbed Gerken for Jimmy Smith to grab the final touch and net his first goal for the club.
