Nine-man Dundee dumped Motherwell out of the Scottish Cup with a 2-1 win at Fir Park. At the third time of asking after two postponements First Division Dundee caused a shock by knocking out SPL side Motherwell. After a dour first half the game burst into life in the second period with three goals in 12 minutes. Dundee broke the deadlock four minutes after the restart when Paul McHale scored from 12 yards after Graeme Smith spilled the ball to McHale's feet. The visitors doubled their lead on 55 minutes when Scott Robertson bundled the ball home from close-range. Motherwell reduced the arrears just past the hour mark when substitute Darren Smith headed home Steven Hammell's corner. Dundee were reduced to ten men seven minutes from time when Kevin McDonald was sent off for a second bookable offence after a foul on Stephen Hughes. The First Division side lost another man two minutes from the end when Gary MacKenzie was dismissed for a second bookable offence. Motherwell threw everything into attack in the closing stages, but Dundee held on to record a famous win. Dundee will face fellow First Division side Queen of South in the quarter-finals.
