Goals from Wesley Sneijder, Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Dirk Kuyt gave Holland a comfortable 3-1 win over Austria in Eindhoven. It was a sixth successive win for the Oranje as they were comfortable winners at the Philips Stadion. Marko Arnautovic pulled one back with an 84th minute penalty for Austria but it was Holland who continued their impressive form. Ruud van Nistelrooy also continued his return to the international game after coming off the bench with a little under 20 minutes to go. Austria had the first shot of the game through Stefan Maierhofer before visiting goalkeeper Jurgen Macho was called into action in the 10th minute when he was forced to save Huntelaar's right-footed shot with his legs. Holland were having more of the play and Kuyt put his header wide from the six-yard box before Sneijder converted a simple goal in the 29th minute. Theo Janssen's pass from the left wing found the Inter Milan midfielder in the six-yard box and he slotted home into the centre of the goal. Austria looked to respond and as the half wore down Franz Schiemer headed over the bar, Arnautovic fired in a long-range shot which was comfortably held by Dutch keeper Maarten Stekelenburg before David Alaba shot wide. Sneijder went off at half-time but just three minutes after the break the hosts were two goals up through Huntelaar , who headed home from close-range following a cross from the left.

Command

Holland were in command and, as Florian Klein shot over, the hosts were yet to produce anything to threaten the Dutch. And the game was over as a contest 20 minutes from time when Klein handled in the box and Kuyt converted the resulting penalty. Austria pulled one back with six minutes to go when a spot-kick was awarded following a foul by Peter Wisgerhof on Sebastien Prodl, Arnautovic putting the ball into the bottom right-hand corner of the goal. The visitors finished well, Arnautovic drilling a shot over before Erwin Hoffer curled a right-footed shot from the left of the area forcing Stekelenburg to punch clear. Van Nistelrooy was denied a goal when his close-range shot was blocked by Schiemer.
