Dusan Kuciak is expected to have recovered from a knee injury before Slovakia leave for the World Cup.

Slovak stopper likely to be fit for South Africa

Slovakia goalkeeper Dusan Kuciak is expected to have recovered from a knee injury before his side leave for the World Cup. Kuciak sustained damage to his left knee during Slovakia's 1-1 friendly draw with Cameroon in Klagenfurt and has been undergoing treatment since ahead of their warm-up against Costa Rica on Saturday. But coach Vladimir Weiss is hoping the stopper will be fit for his side's departure to South Africa. "I believe Dusan is rapidly recovering and will be okay as soon as possible," Weiss told the Slovakian FA's official website.

Hype

Meanwhile, captain Marek Hamsik insists the hype surrounding his side's World Cup campaign is not affecting his players. The level of interest in the tournament in Slovakia is massive after their national team qualified for the finals for the first time. But Napoli midfielder Hamsik is adamant the hysteria is not a distraction, and is proud to be involved in the set-up for South Africa. "We are pleased that the people of Slovakia are so interested in our progress at the World Cup," said Hamsik. "Therefore I am personally very pleased to deal with signatures and pose for pictures and movies. It's for their memories. "Perhaps such events to help popularise football in our country even more is just what our sport needs."
