Samaras and co aware of the need for a fast start

Greece are ready to launch their World Cup campaign, with their squad united behind a common goal. Ahead of their opening match against South Korea on Saturday, focus has become the key word within the camp. The Greeks are aware that a positive start is imperative to any hopes they harbour of reaching the knockout stages. With that in mind, the 2004 European Champions know they have no margin for error and must ensure that everyone is pulling in the same direction. "We must be focused throughout the match," said striker Georgios Samaras. "I don't think it's going to be an open match, both teams will be careful. It's the first match and if you lose the first match your chances of getting through to the next round are limited." Defensive rock Avraam Papadopoulos has echoed the sentiments of his team-mate, acknowledging that games at this level can be settled on the narrowest of margins.

Passion

"We are extremely focused because we want to show the best we can play," he said. "We must be focused to take control of the match. "Small factors like strength, passion and focus will determine success and I believe we have those elements to win the match." Samaras has also made it clear that Greece will be going all out for the win against South Korea, with little to be gained from adopting a cagey approach. "You can't tell whether a draw would be a good result, you never know," he added. "Everybody knows that if you play for two results, win or draw, a lot of times you end up with nothing."
