Galekovic takes Boro keeper's place in squad

Eugene Galekovic has been called up to Australia's World Cup squad after Brad Jones pulled out for personal reasons. Middlesbrough goalkeeper Jones has decided to withdraw from the squad to deal with a serious illness within his family. Jones was allowed to leave Australia's training camp last weekend due to the illness and Australia coach Pim Verbeek has confirmed he will not return for the finals. "It has been decided that Jones will not return to South Africa and will remain with his family," the team said in a statement. Fifa have granted Australia's football federation special permission to replace the player with fellow back-up keeper Galekovic ahead of the Socceroos' opening Group D match against Germany on Sunday. Galekovic will act as understudy to Mark Schwarzer and Adam Federici for goalkeeper's spot in the Australia side.
