Freiburg face a defensive headache with skipper Heiko Butscher expected to be out of action until Christmas. The Bundesliga outfit have also been handed further injury news with Czech star Pavel Krmas due to miss the next few weeks. The 29-year-old Butscher susatained knee ligamament damage during the team's 2-1 league defeat against Wolfsburg on Sunday. Meanwhile, fellow centre-back Krmas, who has been on the edge of the first team will undergo minor calf surgery and will miss training for the foreseeable future while he recovers. Freiburg head coach Robin Dutt told the club's official website: "Butscher will be out until Christmas while Krmas will have surgery this week. "We have to deal without them for the coming weeks." Former German Under-19 defender Omer Toprak is stepping up his fitness and the 21-year-old replaced the injured Butscher in the weekend defeat against Steve McClaren's side. "I am hopeful to see Toprak stepping up as he is about to get back to full fitness. "He needs to play first team football," said Dutt.
