Buddies youngster refusing to put date on comeback

St Mirren midfielder Aaron Mooy has confirmed he is on the road to recovery after damaging his back in a pre-season game. The Australian youngster is yet to feature for the Buddies in the new SPL season due to a stress fracture of his back. The 20-year-old is refusing to put a timescale on a possible return, stating the final decision will be down to physio Gerry Docherty. Mooy is frustrated that all of his hard work in pre-season was for nothing following the lay-off, but he is determined to return as strong as ever.

Frustrating

"I did it in pre-season when we had a bounce game, I went in for a slide tackle and my back was in pain, so I came off," explained Mooy. "I had a scan a couple of days later and it showed that up. I was worried as there was a little fracture in my back but Gerry the physio said I'd be fine and put my mind at ease. "I had two weeks off and was told to do nothing. I just stayed at home and watched television. When I came back in I started doing light exercises on my core muscles to strengthen my back. "I didn't think too much about it, I thought I was just in a bit of pain but then it got worse. My rehab is going well, I've started to pick up on the aerobics and starting to run more. "It's been frustrating because I'd done all the pre-season work, all the running and all the hard stuff before it happened but there's nothing I can do about it now. "There's not really a timescale for when I'll be back. It just depends on how I feel and if Gerry feels I'm ready to go. It shouldn't be too long as I know I'm close."
