Belgian out for 'a few weeks' and set for ankle surgery
AZ Alkmaar midfielder Maarten Martens is facing a spell on the sidelines, with the Belgian set to undergo surgery on his ankle next week.
The Eredivisie club confirmed on their
official website that the 27-year-old will go under the knife to determine what is causing the irritation to the joint.
Martens has been struggling with the problem over the past few weeks, having not featured since AZ's clash with NEC Nijmegen last month.
The midfielder will be out of action for 'a few weeks' according to the Dutch side.
Martens has featured in two league games for AZ so far this season, scoring in the 3-1 win over PSV Eindhoven.
