Striker signs a one-year deal at recently relegated Kaiserslautern

Mohamadou Idrissou is going to spend another season in the German second division despite firing Eintracht Frankfurt back to the top-flight. The 32-year-old hitman was a driving force behind the club making an instant return to the Bundesliga with 14 goals in 26 games, including two in the 3-0 at Aachen that sealed promotion. But the Cameroon striker has agreed to join recently relegated Kaiserslautern in a two-year deal despite having 12 months left at Frankfurt. "The signature of Mohamadou Idrissou hands us a type of striker that we did not have before," Kaiserslautern boss Franco Foda told the club's official website. "He is a player that is good in the air and can perform many different roles up front. We were clearly in need of some extra firepower in our ranks."

Financial problems

The deal comes on the back of confirmation from Frankfurt boss Armin Veh that they are unlikely to sign Slovakian defender Norbert Gyomber after the 20-year-old failed to impress on a week-long trial and amid concerns that Frankfurt are on the verge of financial meltdown. They are still reeling from the financial implications of a season in the German second division, according to club chief Axel Hellmann, and without promotion back to the top-flight would have had to sell their best players. "We have consumed all our accrued financial reserves in Bundesliga 2 last season," Hellmann told the Frankfurter Rundschau newspaper. "We would not have been in the financial position to do one more year in Bundesliga 2 under the same financial prerequisites. "Our current budget is safe, but it was a difficult task. It is still very much a balancing act."
