Championship: Sheffield Wednesday boss Dave Jones excited by Fryatt deal

Sheffield Wednesday boss Dave Jones is confident Matty Fryatt will become "a terrific acquisition for the club" following his loan move from Hull.

Fryatt arrived at Hillsborough for an initial month on Friday and stepped off the substitutes' bench to make his first Owls' appearance in Saturday's home defeat to derby rivals Doncaster.

"Matty only signed half an hour before we trained on Friday so I thought it would be best if we put him on the bench and take in the place from there to start with," Jones said after his side were left waiting for their first win of the season.

"When we put him on, he showed one or two good touches and I'm sure he will be a terrific acquisition for this football club."

Jones, bitterly disappointed his side's improved display went unrewarded against Doncaster, also handed home debuts to on-loan Wolves defender Roger Johnson and former Cardiff midfielder Stephen McPhail.

"I thought Roger and Stephen did well," Jones added. "Roger does what he does, he heads, he kicks and he organises.

"Stephen ran the show in the midfield. I don't think he gave the ball away and he was really composed.

"So I can take plenty of positives from that game, but what I can't take is the points and that is hard to swallow.

"But we can't and won't feel sorry for ourselves because that was a good performance.

"It's important that everybody keeps their heads up. We'll be in (on Sunday), we go again and prepare for Brighton on Tuesday night."
