Evans fury at penalty decision

Rotherham boss Steve Evans was furious over a second half penalty claim by his unbeaten side after 1-1 draw at Walsall.

Rotherham striker Daniel Nardiello went down under a challenge from Walsall skipper Andy Butler in the 60th minute, but referee Stuart Atwell took no action. Walsall boss Dean Smith insisted it was not a penalty and when told of Smith's opinion, Rotherham manager Steve Evans snapped. "He is talking like an idiot," he said. "You come to Walsall, go a goal in front and then give a goal away, and the game is in the balance. Then we don't have a decision, which is incredible, not to get that penalty. "I'm not questioning the integrity of Stuart Atwell because he is an honest man and a good man." Rotherham, now unbeaten in eight league games, began the sharper side and took the lead on 21 minutes when Kieran Agard's deep cross was headed back by Alex Revell for Nardiello to nod into the net for his fifth of the season. But Walsall equalised in the 31st minute when a corner was only partially cleared and Sam Mantom hammered a volley from just outside the box which took a deflection on the way past keeper Scott Shearer. Millers boss Evans added: "Dean Smith will go home thinking a point is fair, while Steve Evans will be thinking about the penalty which was not given. "We were very unfortunate, and not just with the penalty. Tom Eaves (making his debut on loan from Bolton) got a great flick on and their keeper made a great save. "I am a very frustrated manager driving home."
