Inter beat Fiorentina, Roma see off nine-man Udinese

Internazionale stretched their lead at the top of the table to three points with a 2-0 victory at Fiorentina, while Roma beat Udinese 2-1 to climb to second. Fiorentina could find no answer against unbeaten Inter after Luis Jimenez opened the scoring in just the ninth minute. Julio Cruz popped up just before half-time to make it 2-0 and Inter held on for their ninth league win in 13 games. Udinese were unable to keep up their good form as they were sunk by Roma and finished the game with just nine men. All the goals arrived in the first half, with Juan breaking the deadlock for Roma after 10 minutes and then Rodrigo Taddei restoring their lead in the 27th minute after Fabio Quaglierella's equaliser for Udinese (12). Andrea Dossena and Giampiero Pinzi were then sent off for using foul and abusive language 12 minutes from time. Atalanta hammered Napoli 5-1 to move up three places to sixth. Sergio Floccari (6), Antonio Langella (21) and Cristiano Doni (36) gave Atalanta a commanding 3-0 advantage at the break and Morris Carrozzieri made things worse for Napoli two minutes into the scond half. Roberto Sosa pulled one back for Napoli on the hour mark but Adriano Ferreira Pinto completed the rout for Atalanta after 73 minutes. Palermo, in their first game since axing coach Stefano Colantuono, lost 3-1 to Catania. Giuseppe Mascara struck Catania's opener in the 28th minute and Gionatha Spinesi added a second from the penalty spot after 41 minutes. Fabio Caserta halved Catania's lead in the 63rd minute but just 60 seconds after getting Palermo back into the game he was sent off for a professional foul. Jorge Martinez then found the target in the last minute to clinch the three points for Catania. Empoli began life under Alberto Malesani with a 1-0 defeat to Parma that leaves them at the bottom of the table. Massimo Paci netted the crucial goal after 20 minutes as Parma moved towards the safety of mid-table. Cagliari had started the day in 20th place but they moved above Empoli with a goalless draw against fellow strugglers Livorno. Siena also collected a crucial point as they held Lazio to a 1-1 draw. Lazio, who have yet to get going this season, took the lead through Goran Pandev (23), but Massimo Maccarone levelled nine minutes later. In Sunday's late game, Torino and Genoa played out a 1-1 stalemate in Turin. Salvatore Lanna's effort for the home side in the 57th minute, cancelled out Marco Borriello's strike for Genoa not long after the half-time break.
