Bayern Munich have claimed the Bundesliga title with a 3-1 win over Hertha Berlin.

Second-placed Schalke held at Mainz

Bayern Munich have claimed the Bundesliga title with a 3-1 win over bottom-placed Hertha Berlin thanks to a brace from Arjen Robben. The UEFA Champions League finalists clinched the league trophy as second-placed Schalke only managed a 0-0 draw away to Mainz and survived a penalty scare when Miroslav Karham failed to convert for the home side. Ivica Olic got the ball rolling for Bayern Munich in the 20th minute but were soon pegged back when Hertha Berlin's Colombian striker Adrian Ramos equalised on the hour mark. Former Chelsea winger Robben again showed his prowess in front of goal when his strike put the league leaders back on top 14 minutes later. The Dutchman put the game beyond doubt with three minutes to spare for a convincing 3-1 win to put them five points clear at the top and crown them German champions. Werder Bremen stayed in third place and secured UEFA Champions League qualification despite being held to a 1-1 draw with Hamburg. Former Real Madrid hitman Ruud van Nistelrooy fired in for the visitors in the final minutes of the game to cancel out a Claudio Pizarro finish for Bremen. Bayer Leverkusen missed the chance to go third in the table as they shared the spoils with Borussia Monchengladbach. Striker Patrick Helmes put the away side 1-0 in front but Roel Brouwers equalised at the Stadion im Borussia-Park.

Shock result

The shock result of the day came at the Schönbergstadion when Freiburg thumped fifth-placed Borussia Dortmund 3-1. Papiss Demba Cisse netted twice in the 70th and 90th minutes after Mohamadou Idrissou cancelled out Lucas Barrios' earlier opener for Dortmund. Wolfsburg claimed a 3-1 win over mid-table rivals Eintracht Frankfurt after dominating the match at the Volkswagen Arena. Zvjezdan Misimovic gave the home side the lead with just over 20 minutes gone before defender Sascha Riether doubled Die Wolfe's lead. Reported Manchester United target Edin Dzeko proved how clinical he can be in front of goal as he put Wolfsburg further ahead before Turkish midfielder Halil Altintop netted a consoltation for the Eagles. Hoffenheim had to come back from a 19th minute strike when Cacau smashed the ball home for Stuttgart to claim a 1-1 draw following a powerful headed goal from Boris Vukcevic at the Sinsheim. Cologne slipped to 13th in the Bundesliga as Nurnberg clinched a hard-fought 1-0 home win through an Andreas Ottl goal, although the hosts were still relegated. Hannover narrowly avoided the drop zone after smashing second from bottom Bochum 3-0 with goals from Arnold Bruggink, Mike Hanke and Sergio Pinto.
