Manchester City 4 Manchester United 1
United enjoyed more possession at the Etihad Stadium on derby day and only had four shots less than their opponents - but they were still comprehensively outplayed and beaten by City. They were simply too strong for David Moyes' men all over the pitch - Vincent Kompany bossed Wayne Rooney (the latter did score a wonderful free-kick, though), Yaya Toure stood head and shoulders above Fellaini and the Negredo-Aguero axis looked a perfect blend of steel and silk. Yes, it's still far too early in the campaign but the manner of City's victory made the encounter feel pivotal.

Leighton Baines
Inspiring Everton to consecutive Premier League victories, Baines' brace of exquisitely-taken free-kicks in Saturday's 3-2 victory at West Ham demonstrated exactly why he is regarded as the country's finest dead-ball specialist. His first effort levelled proceedings just after the hour mark as he beat a sprawling Jussi Jaaskelainen to find the top corner and pull the Toffees back into the game. Baines was presented with the exact same scenario as the game entered its closing stages and the full-back delivered once more, although this time he opted for Jaaskelainen's left, leaving the Finn rooted to the spot and putting Roberto Martinez's side in the ascendancy. Not only did he bag the vital double, he bombed up and down the left in typical fashion all afternoon, almost finding the net from open play with a strike prior to his second.
Goal of the weekend
Sone Aluko
Hull City pulled off one of the shocks of the weekend, coming from behind to secure a 3-2 win at Newcastle on Saturday - and it was Sone Aluko's stunning volley which proved to be decisive. After some good work down the left by George Boyd, the ball found Aluko lurking on the edge of the area and the striker expertly guided it past Tim Krul to leave an ecstatic Steve Bruce dancing on the touchlines. The former Rangers man had even more reason to celebrate his first Premier League strike as older sister Eniola netted for England Women in their 6-0 demolition of Belarus earlier in the day.
Save of the weekend
Artur Boruc
Dejan Lovren's headed winner may have stolen the headlines, but a sublime first-half save from Artur Boruc during Southampton's 1-0 win at Liverpool on Saturday earns the goalkeeper this accolade. Steven Gerrard's free-kick looked destined to give Brendan Rodgers' side the lead, only for the Poland international to fly across his goal and produce a strong one-handed save to palm the ball to safety, keeping the deadlock intact. His opposite number, Simon Mignolet, also impressed between the sticks, denying the visitors with an exceptional triple-save, but Boruc helped to ensure the Saints claimed victory for the first time since the opening day of the Premier League, meaning his stop was of greater significance.
Talking point of the weekend
Mourinho and Mata
Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho did end his torrid week with a 2-0 win at home to Fulham, but he found his selection decisions come under scrutiny once again as Juan Mata was omitted from his squad and left to watch from the stands. Mourinho later explained to Sky Sports: "The evolution of the team is that I want Oscar and Mata to play together. But for that, Juan has to adapt and to work to a certain way of play because I am not ready to change Oscar's position." But after an underwhelming return to Stamford Bridge so far for the self-proclaimed 'special one', the Chelsea faithful seem increasingly eager for the Spain international to return to action sooner rather than later.
Moment of the weekend
Di Canio's mea culpa
After watching his team turn in a limp display in Saturday's 3-0 defeat at West Brom, Paolo Di Canio stood in front of the away end to take any blame being thrown by Sunderland fans on his own shoulders. A little over 24 hours later, the Italian's six-month reign on Wearside was ended by his Black Cats bosses. A meeting with his own players on Sunday reportedly revealed some stark home truths, and now the club sitting bottom of the Premier League after five games must find their ninth manager in a decade. Roberto Di Matteo has already been installed as the favourite by the bookies.

Cardiff feel hard done by
Ben Turner headed home for Cardiff on the stroke of half-time against Tottenham, but referee Mark Clattenburg chalked it off. The fourth official told Malky Mackay that it was disallowed because Aron Gunnarsson was adjudged to have been impeding Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris - a decision the Bluebirds boss found "quite extraordinary". Earlier, Lloris appeared to handle outside his own penalty area after a Kyle Naughton back-pass - so when Paulinho popped up with a later winner for the visitors, Mackay was understandably left fuming.
