Transfer news: Huddersfield boss Mark Robins planning for next season

Huddersfield Town boss Mark Robins is already thinking about next season as he plans for the forthcoming transfer window.

The Terriers finished 17th in the Sky Bet Championship, but were able to finish a largely disappointing campaign on a high with away wins at Yeovil and Watford.

The likes of Blackpool defender Craig Cathcart, Crystal Palace striker Stephen Dobbie and Coventry full-back Cyrus Christie have been among those linked with moves to the John Smith's Stadium, but 12 current players are out of contract this summer.

Robins says that talks will begin shortly and that he is aiming to build a squad for the long-term.

"We have had a couple of issues to deal with in terms of the players that are out of contract, but also the recruitment process will kick into gear in a couple of weeks," he told the Huddersfield Daily Examiner.

"As I've said before, we have set off on a path which will produce good football and good results - but we are at the start of the journey and we have to remember that.

"We have cut costs in line with Financial Fair Play, we can't sign players willy nilly and we won't do that, it's a thing of the past, but we will do things in our own way and in our own time."

Robins also says that he will look towards to club's youth system having seen the likes of Duane Holmes make the step up into the first team this campaign.

"We have got a model where we have to promote from within, but we also have to recruit well and make sure those players who come in have a value, and make sure that value is embedded in the squad to help us move forward," he said.

"It's a matter of being as self-sustainable as possible because there is not an inexhaustible amount of money to spend and that's a real challenge."
