Jose Manuel Casado has revealed that Malaga were not the only club vying to sign him on a free transfer after he was presented by the Andalucian outfit.

The 27-year-old defender signed a season-long deal at La Romareda after leaving Rayo Vallecano over the summer when a new contract could not be agreed.

Malaga had to negotiate to land their man, however, as Casado explained that there were a number of clubs that sounded out his representative.

"My agent, Rene Ramos, was considering a number of options, Malaga amongst them, although Levante were also interested," the player said at a press conference.

"He told me about the possibility here and I was delighted with the idea.

"I have still not spoken with [coach Bernd] Schuster yet, but we already know his opinions and I hope to be available soon."

Malaga did not have to do much to convince Casado to join them and he is excited about the prospect of the new challenge ahead of him.

"This is a very exciting project for me to join, especially after the blow of the injury. I only have words of thanks, because having such an injury is never a good thing," he continued.

"The hard work and perseverance have paid off and luckily today, here I am. Malaga know that they would not sign any player, unless it was suitable for them to do so."

Casado started his senior career in Barca's youth ranks before he joined Sevilla in 2007 only to be sent out on loan to Recreativo and Xerez before he moved to Rayo in 2010.
