Amos Adamu fully supports Fifa investigation

Nigerian official Amos Adamu has denied any wrongdoing after being provisionally suspended by Fifa over allegations of bribery. British newspaper the Sunday Times claims Adamu and Tahiti's Reynald Temarri asked for cash in exchange for their votes on who will host the 2018 World Cup. Both Adamu, the Nigerian president of the West African Football Union, and Temarri are members of Fifa's 24-man executive committee and therefore have a hand in who will host the upcoming tournaments in 2018 and 2022. However, the pair were suspended on Wednesday after the undercover investigation appeared to show the Nigerian official asking for money to be paid directly to him. Fifa's ethics committee will meet again in mid-November to make a final decision, but Adamu refutes the allegations. He said in a statement: "Allegations were made against me by a British newspaper on 17th October 2010 which prompted a Fifa ethics committee meeting yesterday which concluded I should be provisionally suspended from my Fifa duties. "Whilst I wholly refute all allegations made, I fully support the inquiry since it is important that these claims are thoroughly investigated. "Only by doing this will Fifa - and the wider football community - be able to trust that its appointed representatives are beyond reproach." A European nation will definitely host the World Cup in 2018 with England, Russia and joint bids from Spain/Portugal and Holland/Belgium all competing for the right to stage the showpiece spectacle. The final decision on where the competitions in 2018 and 2022 will be held is to be made on 2nd December.
