Togo lodge ban appeal

Togo's Football Federation has appealed to the CAS over the national team's African Cup of Nations ban.

Interim committee hopes African Cup of Nations ban overturned

The Togo Football Federation has lodged an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport against the national team's suspension from the African Cup of Nations. Togo's Interim Caretaker Committee, a temporary body set up in January by world football's governing body Fifa to run the Togo Football Federation, made the appeal on Friday. Togo pulled out of last month's African Cup of Nations in Angola following a fatal attack on their team bus in the build-up to the tournament. Two members of the Togo party and a driver were killed when the bus was fired upon in the northern Angolan region of Cabinda.

Government interference

Togo were banned from the next two tournaments by the African Football Confederation (CAF), who claimed the Togo players had wanted to continue playing in Angola but were forced to return by their country's government, which they felt amounted to 'government interference'. The interim committee feel the suspension should be put on hold whilst the case is heard, although that is yet to be confirmed by either the CAF or Lausanne-based CAS.
