Canaries into the bottom three after Liberty defeat

Jason Scotland kept Swansea City's hopes of a play-off spot alive with a brace in their 2-1 win over Norwich City. Scotland opened the scoring at the Liberty Stadium on 29 minutes, but Alan Lee replied almost immediately for the struggling Canaries. However, Scotland's second of the match, this time from the penalty spot on 50 minutes settled the contest. The victory moves Swansea into seventh in the table behind Burnley while Norwich have dropped into the bottom three. Following a cagey opening five minutes it was the Swans who first threatened as Garry Monk, who found himself in plenty of space inside the penalty area, cannoned a shot against a post. The Swans were enjoying the majority of the possession during the opening 20 minutes with Norwich primarily attacking on the counter.

No breakthrough

But despite their dominance they failed to find a breakthrough and the Canaries started to impose their own style on the game, restricting the passing football that has served Roberto Martinez's side so well this season. Lee poked inches wide with 27 minutes gone but with the game seemingly in the balance, Scotland blasted Swansea in front. The powerful striker received the ball from Andrea Orlandi before unleashing a low drive past David Marshall and into the bottom corner. But their lead lasted just four minutes as, out of nowhere, Lee superbly headed home Adam Drury's left-wing cross from 10 yards. End-to-end football followed as both sides looked to take a crucial lead before the break, but the scoreline remained level as the half-time whistle sounded. Swansea started strongly after the restart and a combination of Marshall and post denied Scotland a second with just four second-half minutes gone.
Penalty
But 60 seconds later it was 2-1 to the hosts and it was Scotland who grabbed it from the penalty spot. The impressive Joe Allen chased a lost cause out wide and managed to keep the ball in play before beating a yellow and green shirt and laying the ball off to Scotland. The Trinidad and Tobago striker was then brought down in the area by Doherty and subsequently sent Marshall the wrong way from the spot. Orlandi fired over the crossbar shortly after while Lee was proving a menace at the other end for Bryan Gunn's outfit. Jordi Gomez twice came close to adding a third for the hosts but it mattered little as they held out for victory.
