Altidore and Dempsey strike after Turan opener

Second-half goals from Jozy Altidore and Clint Dempsey saw the United States come from behind to beat Turkey in their final home game heading into the World Cup. The visitors took the lead in the 27th minute when Arda Turan slotted home in front of more than 55,000 fans at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. But ex Hull City striker Altidore (59) and Fulham hot-shot Dempsey (75) netted to send USA to South Africa on the back of a morale-boosting victory. Turkey pressed early on and missed decent chances through Stoke striker Tuncay and Bayern Munich's Hamit Altintop, before America responded with wayward strikes from Dempsey and Benny Feilhaber. Turkey's opener came from an American attack, as Jonathan Spector set off on a neat run.

Struck

When he was dispossessed, however, it allowed Turan to attack and he was unchallenged as he advanced and struck past Everton's Tim Howard. Both sides could have scored just before the break, but Tuncay's shot was deflected narrowly over and Dempsey could not get on the end of Altidore's dangerous cross. USA coach Bob Bradley made four substitutions at half-time and one of the replacements, Robbie Findley, made an immediate impact. Ten minutes after the break, he controlled well before shooting wide - then three minutes later he had a hand in the equaliser. He played in Landon Donovan and the Los Angeles Galaxy striker narrowly avoided Turkey goalkeeper Volkan Demirel, selflessly setting up Altidore to tap home.
Other end
Turkey went looking for a winner, but when the goal arrived it came at the other end. Again Donovan was the architect as, from a short throw, the former Everton man found Fulham striker Dempsey, who controlled well and finished. Dempsey and Jose Torres narrowly missed chances to add a third for the hosts in the closing moments, but there was still plenty of encouragement for the home fans. USA have one more warm-up game, against Australia in Roodepoort in South Africa, before opening their Group C campaign against England on 12th June.
