Freedman goal settles tight contest at Huish Park

Leeds United confirmed their spot in the League One play-offs after holding on for a 1-0 win at Yeovil Town. On-loan striker Dougie Freedman scored the game's only goal after just four minutes at Huish Park, but Leeds played the final 25 minutes with 10 men after Alan Sheehan was sent off. Gary McAllister's side started brightly and were quickly in front when Freedman steered the ball home from close range after Bradley Johnson had kept alive Frazer Richardson's cross. Freedman, who was taking his tally to five goals in 11 games since joining from Crystal Palace, almost added another, but he was unable to get on the end of Anthony Elding's cross from the right. Yeovil gradually grew into the contest and came close to equalising when Marvin Williams turned the ball wide after his initial attempt had been saved by Casper Ankergren. The Leeds keeper also saved from veteran striker Marcus Stewart as Yeovil finished the first half in the ascendancy. The hosts were narrowly off target through Anthony Barry after half-time, while Johnson took a coat of paint off the woodwork with a rasping drive for Leeds. But on 65 minutes Leeds were reduced to 10 men after Sheehan was shown a straight red card for a two-footed challenge on Lee Peltier which sparked a melee between the two sets of players. Yeovil cranked up the pressure in the closing stages, but could not force an equaliser as Leeds hung on to book their place in the play-offs.
