Latest Racing Stories

Our latest gallops report comes with news from Andrew Balding's team at Kingsclere. Andrew Balding worked a bunch of two-year-olds that are set for imminent racecourse duty and the number included CASUAL SMILE. The trainer is easily forgiven for having a soft spot for Casual Smile as she is a daughter of Classic winner Casual Look. Casual Look gave Balding a dream start to his career when landing the Oaks in his first season. Casual Smile has acquitted herself well in both career starts and probably needs a bigger field than which she encountered at Ascot last time to demonstrate her true ability. She worked stylishly at Kingsclere and goes for the fillies' maiden at Newmarket on Saturday. TELEGRAPH was turned over when a warm favourite at Chester but has come out of that with all guns blazing and is also working well. MUIR LODGE goes for a sales race on Newmarket's Saturday card, having been given a rest since breaking his maiden on the all-weather. TRADING PROFIT holds a Mill Reef Stakes engagement and seems to have progressed since his first success on his second outing, but Balding will monitor ground conditions for that Group Two. WITH A TWIST breezed nicely this morning ahead of the Newbury maiden on Friday, while BONFIRE looked well in himself doing a swinging canter ahead of his return from a protracted absence in the conditions race.
