The Rugby Club caught up with Chris Latham to talk relegation and England.

Latham not leaving without a fight

The Rugby Club caught up with Worcester fullback Chris Latham to talk relegation and England. The Wallaby legend will return home to Australia soon ending , his two-year stay at Sixways but he is still determined to leave Worcester as he found them - a Premiership Club. Currently bottom of the table, Latham is at a loss to explain exactly what has gone wrong with Worcester. "The table doesn't lie and realistically that is where we sit," Latham told The Rugby Club. "It is hard because as a player and as a coach you put in a lot of hard work and you are doing a lot of things to be successful. It's just not coming off at the moment. "After every game you go and talk to the opposition coach and they asked us the same question - on paper we have such a good squad."

Under pressure

Latham is not used to relegation and admits to have found the experience difficult to take at times which has affected his game. "Each person is different some people might like to talk about relegation and get it off their chest - say that they are worried about relegation and you cannot criticise that and you have got to help that guy through it," added Latham. "Others just want to shut it out and not think about it and they don't want to hear other guys talking about it. You have got to block it out and deal with what you can control. "These are all things that you have to worry about which to be honest I have not had to worry about before. There have been times when I have let it get on top of me and it has affected my game. I have tried to do too much in games which has not done me or the team justice." Worcester visit Sale on Friday night in what is a real basement battle with the Sharks just two points ahead of Worcester in tenth place and Latham is not looking further than Friday night. "Honestly I could not tell you who we play after Sale - I would not know what games we have are home or away. All I know is that we have got Sale away and we need to win that game. You have got to have that winning attitude regardless of everything - that is my attitude to the next whatever games. "At the moment this is about me trying to be competitive enough to make sure that what I believe in doesn't get lost and we don't get relegated. I would be very filthy if that happened - I hate losing."
England over analytical
Latham also shared his views on what he feels is wrong with the England set-up - too analytical and too nice! "I think the mindset is very defensive with England, it's very lets analyse the opposition and see what they are doing - how can we stop that and get a round that," explained Latham who won 79 caps for Australia. "As opposed to who cares what they do, let's get our own backyard right and no one will be able to stick with us if we get it right. "What I am used to is a lot of the face-to-face stick - telling a player when he should have given that ball - all that kind of stuff eggs you on to improve and keeps you going. It is all a little too polite over here; a little too nice."
